Ellis Chan, PhD

Associate Faculty Master of Counselling Program (Edmonton Campus)

I am an Associate Faculty member with the Master in Counselling program at the Edmonton Campus and have been teaching courses with City University of Seattle since 2024. I was awarded my Ph.D. in School and Clinical Child Psychology from the University of Alberta in 2021. I am a Registered Psychologist in Alberta with a broad clinical interest in supporting children and youth, young adults, parents, CAF members, and military veterans. I also support an integrated occupational mental health clinic through a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, general practitioners and social workers.

Research

Broadly I am interested in preprofessional training in psychology, and the intervention and prevention of school violence including bullying. Specifically, I seek to better understand the systemic issues that affect efforts working with persons involved in school violence.

Teaching

My background is also in Education with formal training for Secondary Education in Alberta. I hold an interest in supporting students’ success in their academic work and pre professional training.  I utilize a balanced approach of direct and indirect teaching, with an emphasis on a student focused, formative assessment-based teaching model. My teaching utilizes frequent feedback and student engagement to provide a rich, varied, and effective learning environment. I value integrating individual student learning modalities, experiences, values, and interests to ensure their education is engaging and relevant to their lives.
