Important CAP Registration Changes — Applicant Acknowledgment

Applicants planning to register with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) after January 1, 2030, should be aware that City University’s current MCP curriculum does not align with CAP’s anticipated 2030 criteria.

To address this, CityU has developed a Psychologist Emphasis track designed to fully align with CAP’s 2030 criteria. The new curriculum is being submitted to our regulatory body, CAQC for regulatory approval, with the goal of launching in October 2027. CityU also plans to continue offering its current program which will be come the Counselling Emphasis track curriculum for those planning to register in CRPO, BCACC, CCPA, and other counselling associations as appropriate.

Applicants starting the MCP program in Fall 2027 who wish to qualify for CAP registration under the current requirements must enroll in any of the Weekday Cohorts to ensure they complete their degree before the 2030 deadline. Those starting the Saturday or Mixed Mode streams in Fall 2027 will need to proceed under CAP’s 2030 criteria through the Psychologist Emphasis track once it is available.
