Program Description

Earn your Master of Counselling Psychology at CityU in Canada, with programs offered virtually across Canada.
This program is approved by the Alberta Minister of Advanced Education upon the recommendation of the Campus Alberta Quality Council (CAQC).

The program equips graduates to pursue careers as:

• Counselling therapists, qualifying for the Canadian Certified Counsellor (C.C.C.) designation through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
• Registered Psychologists, regulated by the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).
• Registered Psychotherapists regulated by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)
• Registered Clinical Counsellors (R.C.C.) designation of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC)

Graduates may enter practice as counsellors or psychologists, subject to meeting the appropriate registration and licensing requirements.

Our Virtual Program allows you to attend classes via videoconference. This synchronous face-to-face learning modality offers a real-time classroom experience from the comfort of your home, without relying on discussion boards or asynchronous online formats.

There is a short break between each quarter, ensuring that you have time throughout the year to rest, practice self-care, and connect with your family

Pedagogical methods for virtual cohorts mirror our other synchronous learning environments. Instruction includes didactic teaching, Socratic questioning, student-led presentations, case studies, role plays, and many other interactive and experiential learning opportunities.

• Assessment & Testing: Gather and interpret information to assess client needs and determine appropriate next steps in the counselling process, including risk assessments for suicide/homicide and mandatory reporting requirements for the abuse or neglect of vulnerable populations.
