Internship Instructor
Alison Gervais is an instructor and practicum and internship supervisor with City University of Seattle, where she teaches practicum and internship courses within the counselling program. In her role, she supports graduate students as they transition from academic learning into clinical practice, providing guidance in areas such as ethical decision-making, self-reflection, professional identity development, and client care. Alison is passionate about creating supportive learning environments that encourage growth, critical thinking, and confidence in emerging counsellors. Drawing from her experience in counselling and supervision, she contributes to the program by fostering collaboration, encouraging reflective practice, and helping students strengthen the clinical and interpersonal skills needed for professional practice.
Research
My research interests include counsellor wellbeing, ethical practice, supervision, neurodiversity, and blended therapy approaches that combine counselling and teaching practices to support learning and personal growth. I am also interested in the impact of organizational systems on mental health professionals and client care.
Teaching
My teaching philosophy is grounded in creating a supportive, collaborative, and reflective learning environment where students feel encouraged to develop confidence, self-awareness, and clinical competence. I value authenticity, critical thinking, and experiential learning, and I strive to help students integrate theory, ethics, and practical skills into their professional identity as counsellors.
