Alison Holland

For the past 20 years I have worked in adolescent and adult mental health. My career started in 2005 at the Maples Adolescent Treatment Centre where I worked alongside a multidisciplinary team providing assessment and treatment services. I came to understand Attachment Theory as the foundation of my therapeutic approach and have always integrated a culturally agile and trauma informed perspective.  More recently, I have completed advanced training with Lisa Mortimore who incorporates a somatic approach to therapeutic interventions which I now use heavily in my Vancouver-based private practice, Watermark Counselling Co. and in my work with youth and their families through Child and Youth Mental Health.

Research

My areas of interest are:  Attachment Theory, Somatic Approaches to Healing, Intimate Partner Relationships, Parenting/Child Development and Family Health.

Teaching

I believe information needs to be shared in a relational, relatable and integrated way.  I believe that adult learning best occurs within a safe space where there is an opportunity to bring lived experiences and personal knowledge to the process.  Through my role as a facilitator for the Connect Parent Group and Circle of Security parenting program I have learned the value of reflection, curiosity and play as the means by which deep understanding can occur.
