Associate Faculty
Dr. Verma holds a Doctorate in Counselling and Psychotherapy (DCP) and is a Registered Psychotherapist. She is also a Canadian Certified Counsellor and Canadian Clinical Supervisor. Dr. Verma is the Founder and Clinical Director of Lumos Counselling & Psychotherapy, a position she has held since 2019, where she provides clinical leadership, supervision, and oversight of therapeutic services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, ethical, and evidence-based care across the program.
In her role as faculty at City University of Seattle, she teaches practicum and internship courses within the MCP and MEd School Counselling programs. She supervises students during their clinical placements, supporting their professional development and preparation for clinical practice. Her work contributes to bridging academic learning with applied clinical competency through structured supervision, mentorship, and experiential training.
Research
Dr. Verma’s research focuses on multicultural counselling competencies and culturally responsive psychotherapy, particularly with South Asian populations. Her Applied Scholarship Project, Barriers and Facilitators to Multicultural Counselling Competencies: A Mixed Methods Systematic Review, examined factors influencing effective multicultural counselling practice. Findings emphasized the importance of ongoing training, self-reflection, supervision, communication, and therapeutic alliance in developing multicultural competence.
Teaching
Bhavna’s teaching philosophy emphasizes experiential learning, cultural humility, and integrating theory with reflective clinical practice. Her teaching interests include multicultural counselling, trauma-informed care, and clinical supervision.
